"... worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy." (Revelation 19:10)

Daniel's Prophecy of 70 Weeks

The young Daniel was among those taken away into the Babylonian Captivity. Then one day as an old man and after many years in the Captivity, Daniel understood from reading the Book of Jeremiah that the Jews were to be in captivity for 70 years (Jer 25:11-12, 29:10). God required these 70 years from Israel because of the transgressions and abominations of the leaders and people, and because the chief priests had polluted the Temple of Almighty God. Israel had not kept the sabbaths of years, that is, every 7th year the land was not to be worked, but was to rest (Lev. 25:1-7). Israel owed the land 70 years of rest. The Bible says:

2 Chronicles 36:14-21: "Moreover all the chief of the priests, and the people, transgressed very much after all the abominations of the heathen; and polluted the house of the LORD which he had hallowed in Jerusalem. 15 And the LORD God of their fathers sent to them by his messengers, rising up betimes, and sending; because he had compassion on his people, and on his dwelling place: 16 But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy. 17 Therefore he brought upon them the king of the Chaldees, who slew their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and had no compassion upon young man or maiden, old man, or him that stooped for age: he gave them all into his hand. 18 And all the vessels of the house of God, great and small, and the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king, and of his princes; all these he brought to Babylon. 19 And they burnt the house of God, and brake down the wall of Jerusalem, and burnt all the palaces thereof with fire, and destroyed all the goodly vessels thereof. 20 And them that had escaped from the sword carried he away to Babylon; where they were servants to him and his sons until the reign of the kingdom of Persia: 21 To fulfil the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land had enjoyed her sabbaths: for as long as she lay desolate she kept sabbath, to fulfil threescore and ten years."

As Daniel was reading Jeremiah and praying in repentance for himself and his people God sent Gabriel to give him the Prophesy of 70 Weeks of years (490 years) which says:

Daniel 9:24-27: "Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy. 25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times. 26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined. 27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate."

Gabriel told Daniel that there would be 70 weeks of years (70 x 7 = 490 years) determined upon the people of Israel and upon the holy city of Jerusalem. This time was to finish and make an end of transgression and sin (i.e. Stop those who go beyond what is right or lawful at the end of the 70th week), and to make reconciliation for iniquity by the substitutional death of Jesus Christ, the most Holy One, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy (Lev. 6:24-27, 7:1-7; John 1:29-36)

The 70 weeks is broken down into 3 parts: The 1st is 7 weeks or 49 years which was taken to build the wall of Jerusalem (Dan. 9:25; cf. Neh. 2:1-8); next was the 62 weeks (434 years) that ran consecutively with the first 7 weeks for a total of 483 years (Dan 9:26). Jesus came at the end of this 69 week period. The fulfillment of these parts of the Prophecy will be explained below. The last week (Dan. 9:27), the 70th, is the yet future 7 year Great Tribulation that we will also look at later.

The Fulfillment of the First 69 Weeks of Daniel's Prophecy

Notice that this Prophecy of 70 Weeks especially concerns Daniel's "people," the Jews, and his "holy city," Jerusalem (v. 24), and prophesies of the coming of the Lord Jesus as "Messiah the Prince" (v. 25). The first 69 weeks of this prophecy (483 years) have been precisely fulfilled up to the 69th Week. The last week (of years) is the yet future 7 year Tribulation. Here is the simple breakdown:

Seven weeks (49 years) is the time from King Artaxerxes' command to build the wall of Jerusalem (Neh. 2:1-8) to it's completion (v. 25), and after 62 weeks (434 years) our Messiah was cut off. Jesus was crucified on the Thursday after His Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem on the colt of an ass on Sunday, 31 March 30 AD fulfilling 69 weeks or 483 years of Daniel's amazing prophecy (7 + 62 = 69 x 7 = 483). This leaves one additional week (the 7 year Great Tribulation; 7 + 62 + 1 = 70 x 7 = 490 years).

The famous Irish Bible Chronologist, James Ussher (4 Jan. 1581 - 21 Mar. 1656) established the date of the twentieth year of Artaxerxes at BC 454 which brings the 483 years of Daniel 9 to fulfillment in 30 AD. This has been re-verified by Dr. Floyd Nolan Jones in his book, Chronology of the Old Testament: A Return to the Basics (2002; p. 241). Furthermore, "... hieroglyphic inscriptions in Egypt, shewing that Artaxerxes was associated with his father in the twelfth year of Xerxes' reign, so that there ought to be no longer any doubt respecting that famous prophecy of Daniel, so far at least as regards the crucifixion." (B.W. Savile, "Revelation and Science", Journal of Sacred Literature & Biblical Record, Series 4, [London: Williams and Norgate Pub., April, 1863], p. 156. sited by Jones, p. 253). By using Jones' Chart on page 266 of his Chronology we see that Jesus came into the city to be declared Prince (or King) on the 10th day of Nisan in the year 30 AD. This ended all but the last of Daniel's 70 Weeks. On the 14th of Nisan He was crucified. On the 17th of Nisan He resurrected (See Chart above).

The Time Out Grace Period Between the 69th & 70th Weeks

There has now been a grace period of almost 2000 years since Jesus fulfilled the 69th Week on March 31st in 30 AD when He road into Jerusalem on the colt of an ass. The Lord rode at first upon an ass and then upon it's colt the foal of an ass (Zech. 9:9; cf. Matt. 21:2). This must have some significance! I believe it pictures the break between the 69th and 70th weeks, the time out period for the Church Age or Age of Grace, the ass representing the Dispensation of Law, and the "colt the foal of an ass" signifies the Church Age. The Lord Jesus established His First Church during His earthly sojourn, completing it during His last week by instituting the Lord's Supper, and after His resurrection by giving the Great Commission, and finally empowering the believers with spiritual gifts 10 days after He ascended back to Heaven. The First Church that Jesus Christ established was fully functional on the evening of the day of His resurrection when He commissioned the disciples the first time (John 20:21-23).

Zechariah 9:9: "Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass."

Matthew 21:4-5: "All this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass." (cf. Matt. 21:1-11; Mark 11:1-10; Luke 19:28-44; John 12:1, 12-16)

The Bridegroom, The Bride & The Friend of The Bridegroom

The last Prophet of the Age of Law, John the Baptist, passed the baton to the Lord Jesus Christ and He built His church. All true churches are to be modeled after Christ's First Church (Matt 16:18). Toward the end of John the Baptist's ministry, he said:

John 3:27-30: "... A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven. 28 Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him. 29 He that hath the bride [New Testament church members] is the bridegroom [Jesus Christ]: but the friend of the bridegroom [John & other Old Testament saints], which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled. 30 He must increase, but I must decrease."

Luke 16:16: "The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it."

Matthew 11:13: "For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John."

The Old Testament saints (of the first 69 weeks) and before, and Tribulation saints (of the 70th week) will be resurrected after the last week of Daniel. The Church Age saints will be resurrected/raptured before the last week of Daniel (cf. Dan 12:11-13; Job 19:25-27). Note that Hebrews 11, The Faith Chapter, speaks strictly of Old Testament saints except for the last verse:

Hebrews 11:39-40: "And THESE ALL [OT saved], having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise [resurrection]: God having provided some better thing for US [NT saved], that THEY without US should not be made perfect [raised]." (cf. Heb 11:1-38; Note: vs. 18, 19, 35)

1 Corinthians 15:21-23: "For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming."

Hebrews 12:22-24: "But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels, 23 To the general assembly [Saved out side the NT churches] and church of the firstborn [NT church members], which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect [OT saved to be raised at the end of the Trib], 24 And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel."

Church Age Saints Cannot Know The Time; But Tribulation Saints Can Know The Time

During the Lord's last week before His crucifixion (Sunday through Wednesday) "He taught daily in the Temple" (Luke 19:47) elaborating on Pre-Tribulation signs (Matt. 24:3-12, 32-42), the "Great Tribulation" (Matt. 24:4-24; cf. 24:21; Dan. 12:1; Mark 13:19; Rev. 2:22, 7:14), and the return of Christ to earth (Matt. 24:25-31). It was during this time that He gave His great prophetic discourses in the Temple (Luke 21) and on the Mount of Olives (Matt. 24; Mark 13). During these discourses He said several times that we of this Dispensation CANNOT know the time of the Rapture (cf. Matt. 24:36, 42; Mark 13:32; et. al.). We of the Church Age cannot know the day, times or seasons but those of the Great Tribulation, Daniel's last week of years, the last 7 years of the Dispensation of Law may know. It will be 84 months long, precisely 2,520 days, or seven 360 day years (Dan 9:27; cf. Rev. 6:1-2 [beginning]; Rev. 11:2-3 [1st half], Rev. 12:6 & Rev. 13:5 [2nd half], Rev. 19:11-21 [Christ's return]). When the Tribulation saints come to understand the last verse of Daniel's Prophecy of 70 Weeks coupled with the Lord's Olivet Discourse and the Book of Revelation, all they need do is count off the 2,520 days from the day that the Antichrist confirms a covenant between Arab nations and Israel which includes rebuilding the Temple and re-instituting Temple sacrifice and oblation (Daniel 9:27).

Church Age Saints Can Know The Generation!

We of this Church Age cannot know the day, times or seasons, but the Lord Jesus Christ did give us the generation that would see His return. In His parable of the fig tree in the Olivet Discourse He gave us the sign of the last generation before the Tribulation. The Bible defines "the fig tree" for us in Hosea 9:10 and Joel 1:7 as Israel. Jesus said this in the Olivet Discourse:

Matthew 24:32-34: "Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: 33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. 34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled."

Israel has been back in the Land for over 60 years now, so we are now living in the last generation.

1948: Nations Rising, Rebuilding, Splitting & Uniting:

There is a parallel passage to Matthew 24:32-34 in Luke 21 that speaks of other trees also. It says:

"And he spake to them a parable; Behold the fig tree, and all the trees; When they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now nigh at hand. So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand. Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled." (Luke 21:29-32)

As Israel is represented by a tree, so other nations are also. Note the nations of 1948:

1. On New Years day of 1948 Benelux [Belgium, Netherlands & Luxembourg] was born. The treaty forming the "Benelux Customs Union" came into effect on 1 January. "[Then on March 18th of] 1948, Britain, France and the Benelux countries signed the Pact of Brussels, a vague commitment to set up a joint defensive system. No surrender of independence or sovereignty was involved, ... albeit ... the wording did speak of the purpose of encouraging the progressive integration of Europe. ... They decided to widen the Brussels Treaty of 1948 so that Italy and Germany could join in an enlarged Western European Union which was created in 1955." (Watts, Duncan; The European Union; Edinburgh University Press; 2008; pp. 29, 36) The Benelux Customs Union was the embryo of the modern European Union (EU).
2. On January 4th, Britain granted independence to Burma (now Myanmar).
3. On April 3rd President Harry Truman signed the Marshall Plan, which authorized $5 billion in aid to rebuild 16 nations of Europe (Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Kingdom).
4. On April 30th the charter of the Organization of American States (OAS) was signed in Bogota, Colombia. Now there are 35 member nations. At it's beginning the OAS had these 21 members: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, United States, Uruguay, Venezuela.
5. On May 14th the independent State of Israel was proclaimed in Tel Aviv under Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion as British rule in Palestine came to an end. Ben-Gurion and 26 fellow members of the Provisional Council of State signed the Declaration of the establishment of the State of Israel. Ten other member's signatures were delayed for 10 days having been cut off by fighting in Jerusalem. Within minutes of establishment of the State of Israel, U.S. President Truman recognized Israel as the defacto government. The following day the 28 year old British Mandate over Palestine ended, and Israel was invaded by Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Iraq and other Islamic nations.
6. On May 27th, the Provisional Central Government of Vietnam, partially autonomous of the French, was established during the end of French rule. It has been called Pre-Vietnam.
7. On June 7th the Communists completed the takeover of Czechoslovakia with the resignation of President Eduard Benes. They began the takeover on February 25th with a coup d'etat.
8. On June 21st, Lord Mountbatten resigned as Viceroy of India signaling the total withdrawal of the British Empire from India.
9. On August 15th the Republic of Korea (South Korea) declared independence; and on September 9th the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea) emerged out of Soviet occupation, with Kim Il-sung as prime minister.
10. In 1948 Chiang Kai Shek evacuated the Republic of China from the mainland to the Island of Formosa renaming it, Taiwan, and declaring itself the legitimate government of China, and on September 1st the Chinese Communists formed the North China People's Republic.

So we can now see that "the fig tree, and all the trees" have begun to "shoot forth." Therefore, we know that "the kingdom of God is nigh at hand, and that "this generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled." (Luke 21:29-32)

Jesus Asked, "Can Ye Not Discern The Signs of The Times?

Some quote Matthew 16 in an attempt to prove that there are no signs today, or that we should not be looking for signs. In the following passage Jesus had an exchange with some unbelieving Pharisees and Sadducees:

Matthew 16:1-4: "The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would shew them a sign from heaven. 2 He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red. 3 And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times? 4 A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left them, and departed."

There is nothing in this passage discouraging believers from examining the Biblical end time signs! On the contrary the Lord rebuked these religious leaders for not seeing the Biblical signs of Daniel 9:24-26, Isaiah 40:3, Isaiah 53, etc. which were signs of the times that were then present and quickly approaching. Plus the Lord did give them a sign, "... the sign of the prophet Jonas. ..." which pointed to his death and resurrection. There is no evil in studying the Biblical end time signs as some would have us believe.

We can see the precise fulfillment of Isaiah 31:5 that occurred in WW I:

Isaiah 31:5: "As birds flying, so will the LORD of hosts defend Jerusalem; defending also he will deliver it; and passing over he will preserve it."

During WW I on Hanukkah, December 9 1917, the British General Edmund Allenby liberated Jerusalem from the Ottoman Turks without firing a shot by dropping surrender leaflets on the city from biplanes never before seen by the Ottoman's fulfilling Isaiah 31:5 to the letter. It has been said that WW I prepared the Land for the Israelites and WW II prepared the Israelites for the Land.

In Deuteronomy 28 the Lord promised Israel that "... if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth" (Deuteronomy 28:1). However, the Lord also promised Israel that "... if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee" (Deuteronomy 28:15). And God enumerated many curses that would befall them if they did not observe to do His commandments; among the curses was that "a nation of fierce countenance" like an eagle would persecute them. Deuteronomy 28:49-51 reads:

"The LORD shall bring a nation against thee from far, from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flieth; a nation whose tongue thou shalt not understand; 50 A nation of fierce countenance, which shall not regard the person of the old, nor shew favour to the young: 51 And he shall eat the fruit of thy cattle, and the fruit of thy land, until thou be destroyed: which also shall not leave thee either corn, wine, or oil, or the increase of thy kine, or flocks of thy sheep, until he have destroyed thee."

To date three 'nation[s] of fierce countenance' have come against Israel. Note that all three nations had the national symbol of an eagle. They were: 1) Babylon, 2) Imperial Rome, 3) Nazi Germany.

However, in spite of having been taken into captivity twice, they have never lost their national identity. (Jeremiah 31:35-36)

Are these prophetic signs? Absolutely!!!

As It Was In The Days of Noah, So Shall It Be When Christ Returns!

Today America finds its self in the same wicked and sinful condition as Israel in the days of Jeremiah as he prophesied against her, and as in the days of the Apostles when Rome took Israel away into captivity the second time. I believe there will be little to no change, or even an acceleration in this national downward slide into debauchery! Today the Bible and prayer has been banned from schools, and replaced with the absurd theory of evolution. Millions of innocents have not been allowed the most basic of unalienable rights, not only liberty, not only the pursuit of happiness, but defenseless babies by the millions in the womb are now denied life! Homosexuality, pornography, alcohol and drug abuse are now rampant. New Age and other false religions abound. Many have embraced the United Nations and the Global Governance of the New World Order. The overwhelming majority of our elected officials are corrupt and ignore the Constitution they are sworn to uphold. All this because we have abandoned the Almighty who's hand was mightily upon this Nation at it's founding!!! This too is an end time prophetic sign.

Matthew 24:36-42: "But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. 37 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, 39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 40 Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. 41 Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left. 42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come."

And what was it like in the days of Noah?

Genesis 6:5-8, 11-13: And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. 7 And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth ... 8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD. ... 11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. 12 And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth. 13 And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth."

What Do Believers Do In The Short Time We Have Left?

We who have received the free gift of salvation from hell and have been born again have been given a most important charge. The Lord Jesus gave us the Great Commission to carry out until He returns for us, as He said, "... even unto the end of the world. Amen" (Matt.28:20).

In it He entrusted to the charge of the local church the keeping of His word, the 66 books of the Bible, in the last verse of Matthew (Matt. 28:20). There He said that the church is to teach converts "... to "observe" all things whatsoever I have commanded ..." The word "observe" here is from the Latin word "observo" meaning "... to keep or hold. The sense is to hold in view, or to keep the eyes on." (Webster's, 1828). In the New Testament the same Greek word is elsewhere translated, "hold fast," "preserve," "reserve" and "keep" (Rev. 3:3; 1 Thess. 5:23; Jude 1, 2 Pet. 2:4, 9, 17, 3:7; John 8:51-52, 55, 14:15, 23, 15:10, 20; 1 John 2:3, 3:22, 5:2-3; Rev. 1:3, 3:10, 12:17, 14:12, 22:9). In the very same chapter that the Lord told us to "observe all things" that He "commanded" (Matt. 28:20) the same word that is translated "observe" is also translated keepers as in guards (Matt. 28:4). The meaning is clear! We are to guard the word of God, as the Apostle Paul also said, "... the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth" (1 Timothy 3:15).

Upon this command all the other commands of the Great Commission rest. Without God's word, "the faith," there is no soul winning, no church building, no sound doctrine, but with it we are "... throughly furnished unto all good works" (2 Timothy 3:17). We must "... earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints" (Jude 3). With it we can keep ourselves "... in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. And of some have compassion, making a difference: And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh." (Jude 21-23)

God places great importance on His word. He had this recorded to emphasize this fact: "I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name." (Psalm 138:2)

In these last days the word of God has especially been perfectly preserved in the end time universal language in the King James Bible. With it we are equipped for the work that the Lord has tasked us with, namely:
1) Go to the people of our own home towns and to the surrounding areas, and by sending and supporting others into all the world unto the uttermost part of the earth with the Gospel. (Matthew 28:19; John 20:21; Mark 16:15; Acts 1:8)
2) Witness and preach the Gospel and the remission of sins through the Lord's death and resurrection, in accordance with the word of God, requiring repentance of sin and faith in the Lord alone for salvation from Hell. (Luke 21:46-48; Acts 1:8; Mark 16:15-16; Matthew 28:19)
3) Baptize believers in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, which symbolizes the Lord's death and resurrection and their reliance upon God alone, apart from works, for salvation, thus adding them to the church. (Matthew 28:19)
4) Teach saved and baptized believers to guard the whole council of God and to keep it before their eyes in regular Bible study at home and in church fellowship. (Matthew 28:20)
5) Remitting and Retaining Sins of erring church members in accordance with Matthew 18:15-18, etc. This has nothing to do with salvation, but only with local church membership. (John 20:22-23)

John 20:19-23:  "Then the same day [as His resurrection] at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.  20 And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord.  21 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:  23 Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained."

Acts 1:6-8:  "When [40 days later] they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?  7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.  8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth."

Mark 16:15-16:  "And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned."

Luke 21:46-48:  "And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:  47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.  48 And ye are witnesses of these things."

Matthew 28:18-20:  "And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.  19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:  20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen."
